AccessNI amend fee for basic and standard checks.

AccessNI are reducing their fee for basic and standard checks from 1st April 2019. The current fee of £26.00 for a basic and standard check is to be reduced to £18.00. The reduction comes afters a full review by AccessNI of its financial cost recovery model. The review has highlighted significant efficiency associated to online processing thus reducing processing costs of basic and standard checks. In preparation for the change AccessNI have announced that the nidirect online application pages will be unavailable from 4pm on 29th March 2019 until 9am on 1 April 2019.

There is no proposal to reduce the enhanced check which remains the same at £33.00.

Right to Work Documents and Data protection

Access NI have updated their Countersignatory declaration to ensure Right to Work checks for applicants undertaking paid work are completed. The change comes into effect from mid-day on 7th March 2019. The change highlights the condition of checking Right to Work Documents and by requesting an application through DDC you are confirming that this has been carried out. Guidance on Right to Work documents can be found here.

The update also highlights Access NI requirements to process data in accordance with the provision of the Data Protection act 2018.

Sports Sector – Clarification from AccessNI

AccessNI have recently provided clarification specifically aimed at roles within the sports sector. The following roles are eligible for an enhanced DBS check with a barred list check for children, providing they are not supervised and meet the period condition (more than 3 days in a 30day period);

  • Lifeguards and their managers
  • Coaches
  • Referees or other officials – if their duties extend to teaching, training, instructing or being required to care for or supervise children
