Checks for people working overseas for a UK company
Where a UK company is employing staff in the UK to go overseas the best approach is to check them before they go, or at least get the application form completed and their documents checked before they go.
If time is really tight they can send their form & documents by "Special Delivery - before 9.00am" and we will get them the next day. Provided this is a working day and the client agrees to pay for the extra postage, we will check them the same day and return them by the same service so they will be back with the applicant in 48 hours.
If the applicant is already overseas and not due to return to the UK, then we need to work with them to get their documents checked. If they have some documents with them and the client has a local manager who can check these we have some web pages that will show them how to do the checks. we ask that they copy the relevant pages of the documents seen, sign them to say that they have seen them and send them to us with the completed application form. We will use the copies to enter the details on the application form then destroy them (shred).
If the applicant does not have enough documents with them, the application pack includes a consent form for the applicant to sign and nominate a UK contact who we can work with to obtain more documents. This is usually a parent or partner.
We do charge an additional £4.00 + VAT if the applicant is already overseas to cover the extra administration and postage costs.
Foreign nationals coming to work in the UK or returning ex-pats
There are roles where the employer mandates that the jobholder must have a Disclosure done (even if it not a legal requirement), e.g. medical workers, and an organisation may recruit overseas to fill these roles.
Foregn nationals can be checked and this will show if they have ever committed an offence on a previous visit. (It may or may not reveal if they have comitted an ofence oversaes)
The easiest way is to check them once they arrive in the UK, but where this is not possible they can be checked whilst still overseas, provided the client makes provision for their documents to be checked in country and we get copies to complete the application form.
If they are checked overseas and there is no UK address, there will be no associated "local" police force, so we can only request Standard Disclosures.
