Progress on Release 1 (R1) Project
The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) have announced that the delayed project R1 is now making progress towards completion, with testing undertaken with numerous Responsible Organisations (ROs). The first part of this project will be the submission of online basic checks for any applicants in England and Wales. These are currently submitted through the Disclosure Scotland web service. Due Diligence Checking Limited (DDC) have now completed the initial part of the testing for the submission of online basics through the DBS. It is expected that the system will go live in September 2017.
Please note that for some clients this may mean a change to the document requirements due to the differences between the guidance in Scotland and England & Wales. The Update Service
The DBS have reported that they have now received 1 million subscribers to the Update Service since it’s launch in June 2013. They have also increased the time frame for applicants to join this service from 19 days to 30 days, after the certificate has been issued. This should provide greater flexibility for those choosing to join this service and paying their annual subscription to potentially re-use their Certificate. The new employer must accept the certificate and confirm it has the same work force details, the same barring lists and be at the same level as the check they would normally request. Please note that the Update Service is not suitable for any roles where ‘working from the home address’ is indicated on the application. ISO9001 Quality Management System
The DBS Operations (Disclosure) processes have been compliant with this standard for 7 years and are now looking to transition to the most recent standard (ISO9001:2015) by September 2018. The DBS Operations (Barring) processes have been accredited for 3 years and have already attained this new standard. This international standard is aimed at ensuring all clients receive a consistently high level of service. This is coupled with mechanisms to ensure issues are dealt with efficiently and in line with best practice principles. Due Diligence Checking Limited are also ISO9001 accredited as part of our commitment to a quality service.
The DBS completed an independent customer satisfaction survey back in May to help understand their customer needs and meet expectations. Some early reported statistics show that 88% of customers were satisfied with the service they received from the DBS. In addition to this 90% of customers believe the DBS make a difference to public safety by helping employers make effective recruitment decisions.
At the end of the online application process DDC clients and applicants are asked to complete a short survey. These surveys provide an important guide to the work that we undertake and how our users want the service to evolve. In recent history we have made numerous minor changes to the system to improve the service on offer and the system features in place. The DDC team are very pleased that 96% of customer rate our overall service as good or very good.
