DBS checks for Dance Teachers and staff
Under the current legislation, an individual is not able to request a check upon themselves. However, for Dance Teachers that are members of the major Dance Associations, we can assist you with joining their Vetting and Barring Schemes which have been designed with the associations for their members. 1. Decide the level of DBS check your dance staff require
We have provided further guidance on this topic to make it easier for you to decide the correct level, based upon the type of work that your staff will be doing. It is often useful to think of the nature of the contact that your staff will have with children, e.g. helping children to get dressed, supervising children and if there will be any supervision of the staff member during their duties. 2. Register your Dance School to request DBS checks – It’s free!
This is the quickest and easiest step! All you need to do is complete the online registration form and a DDC Agent will contact you to open an account. We can answer any questions you have or offer a tutorial on using the system. Registration is free, you only need to pay for the checks you carry out. During the Registration process we can also provide you with the DBS Code of Practice and other useful documents. Our Registration Page is easy to complete and an account can be opened for you in minutes.
3. Enter applicant details online.
Our online application portal is easy to use and you only need to enter basic applicant details following on-screen guidance. All you need to do is choose which application method (paper or online) you want your applicant to complete. We will then contact the applicant directly to obtain the information required by the DBS and ask them to complete the application form. If your applicant is not confident using computers then you can complete the online form together, or print off a paper application for them to complete.
4. Track applications through your online Client Area
You are provided with a full tracking system, which is in place to ensure that you are always aware of where the application is in the process. Quick search facilities allow you to locate applicants easily and find out exactly what has happened so far. If you’re not sure on the progress of an application you can contact one of our friendly team for assistance. This is actually an optional stage as we will contact you directly if we need any assistance e.g. if the email addresses entered is incorrect.
5. Check your emails for confirmation that the Disclosure has been issued.
Once the application has been processed by the Disclosure and Barring Service we will be informed that a Disclosure has been issued and a Certificate printed. We will then email you and the applicant to confirm that it is on the way. It is only the applicant that receives a Certificate in the post under the May 2013 changes to DBS practices. The Disclosure number and issue date can be seen in your Client Area and a statement printed if required so you know the check has been done.
