Digital Identity

DDC ID; The face of identity verification and compliance for DBS & right to work checks

Identity checking is evolving, are you ready?

Digital identity checking will mean organisations can verify prospective employees’ identities, using consistent and more secure methods, reducing risk and allowing recruitment in a safer way.

What is digital identity?

Digital identity is the new government approved method to verify the identity of candidates remotely during the recruitment process. The government’s intention is to enable organisations to use a certified digital identity service provider (IDSP) to carry out identity checks. This means that organisations can partner with an IDSP to carry out digital identity checking for:

DBS Checks

Employers can use an identity service provider (IDSP) to digitally verify an applicant’s identity as part of their DBS checks. IDSPs must be certified against the DBS scheme and meet the criteria set out in the Home Office trust framework

Right to Work Checks

Employers working with an identity service provider (IDSP) can now verify an applicant’s identity remotely. This means obtaining the required statutory excuse without having to meet them in person and check and copy their original identity documents.

How can DDC help with digital identity for DBS and right to work checks?

What does this mean for employers?

Industry information and our own research indicate that up to 72% of applicants will be able to verify their identity remotely. This means that organisations can now complete DBS and right to work checks without having to verify the original documents. The service is optional and used to process DBS or right to work checks only at present. By using a certified IDSP, organisations will benefit from:

  • Faster onboarding
  • Improved fraud detection and risk minimisation
  • No more paperwork
  • Fully logged and auditable DBS compliance and
  • Statutory excuse for right to work checks
